doccument date prompt

Normally when I begin to type a date in a word doccument a prompt appears and
suggests the current date be inserted. I recently created a new doccument
template that will not prompt me for the date. How can I turn this option
back on?
 
What version of Word is this?

In Word 2007 (not sure about earlier), date AutoComplete is broken when a
horizontal scrollbar is visible. This can occur either if the text is zoom
large or if the window is sized too narrowly for it all to fit.
