Do you know of an application that displays HDD capacity and useage on the desktop?

Instead of having to go into my computer, select the drive and view
properties? In a PERFECT world I would like the shortcut icons on my
desktop to be guages, showing from full to empty a bit like a petrol
guage.

Anyone want to write a simple app to do that?

PowerDesk (in Fix-It Utilities, www.v-com.com) does that already,
showing (in numbers, not graphically) total drivespace and free space
wherever you are logged (version 5 at least: later versions may be
different.) PDesk is a general-purpose replacement for EXPLORER.EXE,
better in several ways.

PowerDesk Pro is a separate program from Fix-it and can be purchased that
way. Latest version is 7.0.1.1

I find it to be superior to Windows Explorer.

I doubt you'll get many take-ups on your request for a custom program to be
written for you!

However, there are plenty of tools out there that show free disk space - the
trouble is that most of them have that as a module of a larger utility. I've
listed a few that might suit which I found after a bit of Googling for you
but I'm not recommending them per se, just giving you some results (which,
tbh, are equally available to all searchers...).

http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Shalom_Disk_Space/shalomdisk.html
(standalone, doesn't install)

http://www.pcwintech.com/cs-fire-monitor (perhaps overkill)

http://freewared.com/free-space-info-0-24-free_1926.html (bit unfriendly,
perhaps unconfigurable)

http://www.tiler.com/freemeter/

http://freewared.com/il-electronic-meter-v1-3a-free_1944.html

A good page to look through would seem to be this:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-resource-meter.htm

If things are that tight that you need real-time monitoring (and concomitant
real-time resource usage) of free diskspace, though, you might want to
upgrade to a larger disk. But if it's just for a bit of fun, heigh-ho.

Thank you both, I'll look it up.

Well, maybe I should have added a smiley for those that take the world
too seriously. :)

Exactly. It's like getting Nero Ultra for burning, only to get all the
other media software with it. I just want one, stand alone, working
application to do what I need.

Oh, I googled. The world is full of apps that can only be found with
some obscure search terms. But I like the personal touch, that is to
say someone who can say something works rather than me just buying
something I happened to find via Google and hoping.

Sarcasm noted, but thanks anyway.

Oh yes, fun, and knowing how much spac is in a particular place. I
need to update my signature so it uses bigger text. I have a total of
5 HDD's with nearly 2 tb of storeage. I just don't like the right
click...etc. Maybe I should look at writing an app myself! It can't be
impossible, I have played with Object Pascal many years ago.

But, even after all this, thanks for the effort you obviously put in.
