Do not have permission error when installing some programs

G

Gail

Hi,

I sometimes have a problem installing software. It says I do not have
permission and to contact my administrator. I am the administrator and the
only user. In safe mode, there is only administrator and owner. I have
taken ownership in safe mode and have given full permission to owner, system,
everyone, as well as administrator and users. Currently, I am unable to
install Windows Media Encoder Series 9 and another encoder program. I have
even gone into safe mode and made sure all the permissions were there for the
actual program I am trying to install.

I have XP Home.

What else can I try when I have this problem?

Thanks,

Gail

Hi Gail,

Do not install in Safe Mode, but use the Regular Mode to install. Are
you installing through Windows Update? The problem may be that Windows Media
Player has been released and that Encoder Series 9 should have been
installed before you upgraded to the latest release.

Uninstall the latest version of Windows Media Player and reinstall after
installing the missed updates.

Hi,

I did try installing in regular mode, not safe mode. I will try what you
suggested, but still need to know why I sometimes have this problem when
installing programs. Thanks so much for replying. I really appreciate it.

Hi Gail,

What Service Pack Level are you at with Windows XP Home Edition?

Have you remembered to disable your Anti-Virus Background Scanner?
Especially when you have problems updating? Also disable any Spyware
protection as well.
