Do I Remove from Remote (Host)

J

Judith

After 10 years on the internet, I have closed my business and can not get an
answer from my FrontPage website host as to whether or not I need to remove
the site or if they will remove it. The contract is not due for renewal
until June and I want to be sure I don't get any orders since I have already
contacted merchant services, etc. to discontinue service.

I have put a message on the home page and removed all links but if someone
does a search for the products I provide, many of them are on the front page
of Google and several other popular search engines so they will be able to
get on my site that way.

If it is my responsibility, how to I go about removing the site (all
folders, files, etc).

Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

If the site has FrontPage extensions, Open the remote site in FrontPage:
File->Open Site or File->Open Web (depending on FrontPage version).
Type in the location - the same location as you publish to.

If there are no extensions, use an FTP program to open the site.

Delete everything except the home page and related graphics. Do not
delete the images or _private folders, but you can delete everything in
the _private folder, and everything in the images folder not used by the
home page.

Site is FrontPage 2003. This closing/removal is due to declining
economy/sales.

Thank you for your help.

If it were me, and I didn't want to delete the web manually, I'd open
FrontPage, create a new web, put a notice on the index.htm page that
you are no longer in biz. Leave the rest of the web empty.

Then publish the "new" web to your existing domain. During the
publish, FP should note there are files residing on the remote web
that are not in the new local web and ask if you want to remove them,
say "yes to all".

I went with Ronx's response and everything is fine. Until my host takes it
offline, my homepage is there to let anyone know what is happening. I just
hope they take it down before it is due for renewal (June). I have contacted
the host three times (email twice and phone message) and still have not had
a response from them. This is unusual because they have provided many years
of very good service/support. Until they remove it, I will continue reading
the emails that come through the website, to make sure I don't miss anything
of importance.

Thank you all for your help.
