Do I need WinSockProxy Server 2.0 ?

I'm connected to my ISP with no proxies, InternetExplorer
browser don't use them, however, I see installed (assume
this) 'WSP Client' in ControlPanel and the folder
named 'mspclnt' is on C: drive as well. I don't know if
WSP Client was installed by default at initial XP
installation four years ago.
Do I need WSP? Is safe to uninstall it? Would this cause
any slow down with my connection speed?

Any suggestion please

Do you connect to anywhere with a VPN? WSP Client is required for that
purpose.

Thanks Malke,
AFAIK I'm not connected to anywhere via VPN, only local
area connection icon (LAN/high speed conn.) is displayed
under NetworkConnections/Control Panel. Also, two boxes
under WSP Client are unchecked in ControlPanel. I assume
proxies are disabled on my machine but I'm not sure if I
can safely uninstall WSP.

Then I don't know why you have this, but since it isn't enabled and it
is an MS service, I wouldn't worry about it. I Googled for "mspclnt"
and it is a legitimate Windows file.

You're not running an ISA server, obviously. Per the above article, you
can uninstall WSP from Add/Remove Programs. I doubt leaving it there
will hurt anything, but if you want you could set a System Restore
Point and then uninstall WSP. Maybe someone else reading this thread
will know why you have it - I don't have it on any of my XP Pro boxen,
but it is legit.
