Do I need a mdw file to open a mdb file copied from office to my PC?

Last week I joined a new company and is working as an admin of the
Access databases that were created before. My manager gives me the full
control of the database (reading, updating and modifying the design
etc. ) and allows me to make a copy of the databse to my notebook
computer so I can learn them in home. I had copied the database to my
notebook. However I was not able to enter the design view of tables,
forms and etc. The message says that I have no permission for reading
those objects. When I open the database in my notebook I was not asked
to enter my name and password. I can get a password for reading and
writing. My question is how I can open the databse in my notebook to
get the design view? and
do I need a copy of the system.mdw in company's shareed driver to my
notebook computer? Any helep is highly appreciated!

If you are asked to login when you use the file at work and after doing so you
can go into design view then yes, that means that at work you are using a
non-default mdw file and you need to use that same mdw file at home if you want
that capability.
