Do I have to register windows again?

I have recently had to do a non-destructive system
recovery and then a full (destructive) system recovery.

Now that I have everything back up and working I am
getting a reminder that I need to register my windows xp.
Is this true? I know you cant register the same "version"
again so how do I get around this?

Thanks!

Incorrect - you *never* receive reminders to register as it's entirely
optional. You can *activate* Windows as many times as you like - if you've
not changed anything on your system you can do it online. If you
significantly change the hardware you may need to call the activation line,
but you *NEVER* need to register.

Mind you, you could have found all this out yourself had you bothered to do
a Google Groups search (see link one in my signature).

You have to do a new *activation* if the system uses it - but your
mentions of non-destructive and full recovery suggest an HP machine
which is handled differently (by 'BIOS locking'). You do *not* have to
register again - or indeed at all. I don't

Well Brainiac, Then main difference should be obvious, even to you. You
HAVE to activate. You don't HAVE TO register.

Activation is needed inorder for you to use XP after the trail period.
No personal information is involved.

Registeration is to let MS know that you have installed XP so that they
may have a good idea how many units are in use for marketing purposes and
entitles you to a few things like access to a newsletter and technical
support. Personal information is given with registeration.

I guess this is what happens when you don't have Kurttail around to do
your thinking for you.
