Hi. I have a PC with win2k, IE 6 SP1, SP4 + all the hotfixes installed.
Opening too many Internet Explorer windows messes up my desktop and taskbar
(taskbar buttons disappear, windows lose their buttons, quicklaunch becomes
gray, right-click stops working, windows start flickering). If I close some
of the IE windows everything gets back to normal. I've done a full system
check and I've come up virus free. It looks like IE has gone haywire. Any
suggestions (apart from reinstalling?)

When you say you have done a full system check, what did
you check with? Only your Anit-Viurs Program?

Try Pestscan online http://www.pestscan.com/ScanOrTrial.asp

Yes. I used AVG to do a full system scan and came up empty handed. And I
have Zone Alarm always on, since I'm on cable. If you mean hardware check, I
haven't done that.
It's really strange. Closing programs doesn't free up the RAM, and at times
a program will either refuse to start / crash with empty dialog boxes and no
event log messages.

No i was referring to spyware, which your AV program will
not pick up. Zone Alarm is a great program, but maybe
something got through. Here are two Anti-Spyware
programs you can download (both free).

Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org
Ad-aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Try Ad-aware first-Before you scan check for UPDATES,
scan, kill everything if finds ( be sure to set the
program for automatic backup) then reboot. See if that
helps.

Here is a online Virus Scanner you might want to try also.

Well, I removed the Alexa Toolbar (goddamn Amazon) using AdAware. Will have
to wait and see if the symptoms go away. Shame though, it was pretty useful.
