Do hubs slow down USB2 ?

I would like to know if USB2 hubs slow down the data transmission between
the PC and a USB device. For example, if I have multiple USB drives
connected to one hub, will the data transmission slow down, versus
connecting the USB drives directly to the PC's USB ports? Thanks.

Yes it will be slower IF you are concurrently using more
than one of the devices connected to the hub. The same
thing happens if you plugged two drives into the same
port-pair of hubs.

USB2 is not a good solution for connecting several hard
drives, it is just a cheap way to temporarily connect one.

I want to program microSD memory cards, in batch. Maybe 7 or 8 at a time.
I will use USB memory card readers to program these microSD memory chips.
To connect the card readers to the PC, I can install USB plug-in cards, or I
can use external hubs. This is where my question is: which way is better?
USB PC-plug-in cards or USB Hub? Thanks.

Please do not top-post. Your answer belongs after (or intermixed

Please do not hijack threads.

Please do not top post. If you prefer top posting then this
isn't the right forum, each forum has it's own conventions.

There is a reason to preserve order on usenet. How would it
be preserved if nobody ever said anything about it's
decline? That happens one post at a time.
