Haven't seen any email come through accept two that were
reported with viruses that were cleaned/removed.

I'll send out an email to Kevin for verification since he
offered first (Thanks Ace).

I have not received your email, yet. You can email either Ace or me, we both
have the script.

FYI:
Just want to point out that Kevin was trying to keep his email address from
showing up here to prevent spammers from farming his email address. That's
why we munge our email addresses!

is required for DDNS and DDNS is > required for proper AD function?

DHCP is not required but it makes life easier.

This is really strange, the script I sent you did run, right?
I picked this up from the netdiag you sent me>

Computer Name: LQQKSSERVER
DNS Host Name: LQQKSSERVER
DNS Domain Name: (null)
System info : Windows 2000 Server (Build 2195)
Processor : x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1, GenuineIntel

In the System control panel what is the full computer name?

And this from the dns test you sent.
Adapter type . . . . . . . : Ethernet
Host Name. . . . . . . . . : .lqqks.local
Description. . . . . . . . : Intel(R) 82559 Fast Ethernet LAN
on Motherboard
Physical Address . . . . . : 00-D0-B7-57-AE-2C
Dhcp Enabled . . . . . . . : No
DHCP ClassID . . . . . . . :
Autoconfiguration Enabled. : Yes
IP Address . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask. . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway. . . . . . :
Primary WINS Server. . . . : 192.168.0.1
Dns Servers. . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Notice the host name?
In this part of the test it should say LQQSSERVER.lqqks.local

But then farther down in the netdiag I see this:
Domain membership test . . . . . . : Passed
Machine is a . . . . . . . . . : Primary Domain Controller
Emulator Netbios Domain name. . . . . . : LQQKS
Dns domain name. . . . . . . . : lqqks.local
Dns forest name. . . . . . . . : lqqks.local
Domain Guid. . . . . . . . . . :
{56EC934F-545F-419C-B703-02D98BE65756} Domain Sid . . . . . . . .
. . :
S-1-5-21-2157091482-4193487791-3408949838
Logon User . . . . . . . . . . : lordlqqk
Logon Domain . . . . . . . . . : LQQKS
Here is has the correct DNS domain name.

When you made the registry changes did you change it here
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
and here
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interf
aces\<interfaceid>

Look in those keys to see where it is loading this from. some of this
looks OK

What a mess!

See, this is one reason why we recommend not to have a DC with mutliple
NICs.

LordLqqk, I would like you to try something.
Delete the SRV folders under the lqqks.local zone.
Delete the system32\config\netlogon.dns and .dnb files.
ipconfig /registerndns
net stop netlogon
net start netlogon

Then I would like you to look at the _msdcs.gc record and tell me what
it/they is/are. If there are two of them, let me know what IPs show up.
Then I would like you to look at the A record(s) for this machine and tell
me what it/they is/are. This includes the (same as parent) blank name
(called the LdapIpAddress).
Run netdiag /fix
Then run the netdiag /v and repost that.

Hopefully File and Print Service is not disabled on the inner NIC. Same with
MS Client.

Looks like it may be easier to actually remote into this thing and take a
look at it. It's getting confusing and the thread is growing...

Thanks

Ok. DHCP is installed.
I have ran the script you sent.
I can see you point about "host name = .lqqks.local." but
can't find the correct spot to correct it in the Registry.
In the Control Panel Systems NetID the full name
is "LQQKSSERVER.lqqks.local". Domain is "lqqks.local"
I have made corrections in the TCPIP\Parameters but just
now made the same corrections in the Interfaces sub-key as
well.
Re-did the steps in the 294328 article you sent.
Same errors in DNS and the same log from "Netdiag /v".

Problem is that I have no SRV folders under the
lqqks.local zone. I have tried deleting netlogon.dns/dnb
and the rest to restore them and I have not been
successful yet.

Netdiag /fix looks like it attempts to correct the SRV
folders but gives errors:
DNS test . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
[WARNING] Cannot find a primary authoritative
DNS server for the name 'LQQKSSERVER.lqqks.local..'.
[ERROR_INVALID_NAME] The name 'LQQKSSERVER.lqqks.local..'
may not be registered in DNS.

LQQKSSERVER is in the DNS lqqks.local zone as 192.168.0.1.

The internal NIC does have File and Print, and MS Client
selected.

If you are interested in taking a look, it can be
arranged, or logs, screen shots, and text files can be
emailed.

Thanks

Ace, he sent me a screen print of the zone, no sub-folders are there. his
domain name is correct, this is a real mess I don't know what is going on
with this puppy, but he may have to put it out of its misery, not an easy
thing to say. The only other thing I can think of at this point is, On the
DNS server properties, Advanced tab, "Load zone data on startup:" Where is
it getting data from?
Choices are:
From Active Directory and registry
From registry
From File

I think this one has got to be redone from the beginning.

I can offer to remote into this machine to take a LQQK see. :)

If not ok, I would suggest to reinstall it.

Sorry,
Ace

Can you post an ipconfig /all, the actual domain name from ADU&C, and a list
of your forward lookup zones in DNS, please?

If this is a disjointed namespace there is a script I can provide you to fix
it.
