Can I create a Active Directory without a DNS server

Fred,

You can not have Active Directory without an internal DNS Server that
supports both dynamic updates and SRV records. However, it does not have to
be Microsoft DNS - it can be BIND 8.2.1 ( IIRC ) and above.

One of the fundamental requirements for WIN2000 Active Directory is DNS that
supports both things mentioned above.
