Hi all

I have an XP Home PC.
When in normal mode, net connectivity is normal for the first few
minutes after boot up. Then DNS functionality dies. Although apps such
as AIM, WeatherBug continue working indefinitely.

When in Safe Mode (with networking) everything is OK.

The PC in question was previously infected with virii, spyware and
other malware. They have since been removed, now fully un-to-date
ad-aware and virus scans don't find any more items.
I have tried removing the protocols and network card driver, and
rebooting. But it doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Thanks very much!

If the PC is fine in Safe Mode but not in normal mode, I'd suspect you still
have unwanted guests on your system. What did you use to clean them off?

Agreed, that seems to be the case.
I used Ad-aware 6, Trend's online scan and Symantec 8.01. (all fully updated)
I'll be doing an OS reinstall if I can't solve it.

Consider a trip through your system with CoolWeb Shredder:

Coolweb is a rapidly-mutating pest that occasionally slips past AdAware.
