DNS hangs on XP machine

I have a network with 3 computers. The XP machine often stops being able to
resolve dns lookups. I can reset my router, cable modem, etc. nothing
works.

1. I can ping 216.109.xxx.xx and I do get a response... but ping
www.yahoo.com does not work.... it is not doing a dns lookup of the name.

2. I can do nslookup www.yahoo.com and it will respond back with the ip
address.

3. I have tried ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew,
ipconfig /registerdns in seemingly all combinations and it will not start
the dns back working correctly.

4. The only way I know how to get the machine back working is to re-boot XP.

Does anyone know what is causing this or an easier way to restart dns
without re-booting?

If you areusing a router, the router may be the problem,
make sure you have the DNS server set there correctly.

I do not have any dns servers entered into my router. So given that, why
does it work most of the time?

Also I called tech support for my ISP and the weekend service is no help...
they don't have a clue about dns. I will check back during normal working
hours.
