DNS giving me an Excederin headache with SP2

IE6 and XP SP2, previously using AOL (client's computer, not my choice of
ISP) and now switching to cable broadband and a wireless modem. Another
machine gets on internet just fine, so no DNS server issues... here's the deal

I get a good IP address and can ping an IP address on the WAN but cannot
ping a domain name or get any pages in IE...I can ping the same domain, or
even get a page if I have the IP address.

Now, just to make things more interesting... if I dial up with AOL I can use
IE just fine...

Have disabled firewall.

I'm so confused! :?

Hi,
Some possibilities:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm Left pane- go to "A" then AOL.

Repair the Winsock stack:
WinsockXP Fix- WinXP http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Also, with instructions, at http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm
You may have to run this again after removing malware.

Check for malware. Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot)
at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Hope this helps,
