There is a problem with Win XP Pro SP1 in its DNS Client process (svchost.exe -k NetworkService
I have installed 2 computers with XP Pro and both of them show the same simptoms of getting a DNS lookup error in IE 6.0.2. This error begins when I visit a non existing link or website or the website times out. After this point I am NOT able to go to any website unless it may be cached on my computer. This problem is temporarily resolved by stopping the DNS Client service so that all request are souly dependant on the DNS server. However, I need DNS Client service in order to use Active Directory features
Interesting points to note
-- I am still able to resolve names using nslookup when the problem occur
-- I can go to a website using the IP addres
-- I can map to as well as go to internal web sites in our organization
-- When you run "ipconfig /flushdns" it does not hel
-- When you renew your IP address with "ipconfig /renew" it temporarily solves the proble
-- Changing the cache parameters in the registry does not hel
Is there a permanent solution to this problem?
