DNS Change

S

Steven Rostron

As part of a migration from NT4 to 2000/AD we will be
using a new DNS name for the AD. There are currently DNS
servers for domain.co.uk and these need to be retained,
the new domain will be domain.local. (All current clients
are NT4 and use WINS, some use DNS for intranet pages)

Has anyone got any tips or pitfalls to watch out for
during this process.

Be aware of the disjointed namespace issue when upgrading to Windows 2000
from Windows NT 4.0.

Upgrade

Name

If you already have a disjointed namespace, call Microsoft support to see
if it can be corrected.

Additionally, as long as you are still in mixed mode, you can use the
following knowledge base article to change a Windows 2000 Domain name.

Hope this helps!
