Can anyone explain why Windows XP/2000 machines take an
incredibly long time to login to a Windows 2000 Active
Directory domain? I know it has something to do with
DNS, but don't really know how to fix it properly. If
anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

thank you.

Answered in AD newsgroup (perhaps the answer will fix your problem.)

Make sure that the DC and the clients ONLY point at the DC for DNS. Do not put any other DNS entries in there unless they too
are other DCs in your AD domain. Then verify that the zone for your AD allows dynamic updates. Check this zone for the
existance of the SRV records. You can reference the netlogon.dns file located in winnt\system32\config. This contains a list of
all records the DC will register. These should be in the zone.
