DNS: *** Can't find servername for address ...

B

Brian Cryer

I've got a network with one NT4 server and a Windows 2003 standard server.
The Windows 2003 server has only recently been joined to the domain, it used
to be used as an independent (test) server but was added to the domain and
the original Windows 2003 server removed.

DNS on the server seems to work fine, but I get a warning message each time
I use nslookup, eg:

C:\> nslookup google.co.uk 10.0.0.6
*** Can't find server name for address 10.0.0.6: Non-existent domain
Server: UnKnown
Address: 10 .0.0.6

Non-authoritative answer:
Name google.co.uk
Addresses: 216.239.59.104, 216.239.39.104, 216.239.57.104

so it seems to be working, but it would be nice to get rid of the message
"*** Can't finder server name for address 10.0.0.6".

Any ideas what I've missed?

thanks,

Brian.

I don't know what the problem was caused by, but it seems to have gone away
.... perhaps I just needed to wait for something to synchronise? I don't like
errors that just go away all by themselves, it leaves me thinking they might
one day reappear.

Brian.
