DMA / PIO Mode

I am using windows XP SP2 and recently installed a DVD player AND
burner into my PC. The burner runs fine using DMA mode but the player
will not run in DMA mode. I double checked the specs on the player and
it does support DMA mode. The player is set to slave on the secondary
IDE channel and the burner is set to master on the same channel.

Any suggestions how I can get the DVD player into DMA mode?

Thanks in advance!!

I will try this and let you know... Seems like a lot of good info on
the page.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.

Lots of valuable info and I tried them all without success. I did
however manage to solve the problem...

I tried switching master and slave, and also tried moving my HD to the
secondary IDE controller and my DVD-ROM and DVD burner to the primary
IDE controller, none of which worked.

I went into the system BIOS and noticed Dell (in their infinite
wisdom) set the slaved drive on the secondary IDE controller to off. I
set it to auto, and the drive is now in DMA mode.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
