DMA enabling

Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager. Locate the entry for your
IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and expand it. Expand this entry and right click
on the Primary and Secondary channels. Select Properties, Advanced Settings.
DMA is enabled there. If you have an add-on IDE controller, DMA is usually
enabled by default for them, and they're often listed under SCSI
controllers.

If it isn't automatically being enabled for you, there's a good chance that
you need to install some drivers. These would keep from your motherboard
manufacturer. For instance, motherboard with Intel chipsets need to have
"Intel Application Accelerator" installed, and VIA chipsets usually require
VIA's "4-in-1" drivers.

I have both and neither require addition drivers or the IAA software
installed to automatically have DMA enabled on devices that can use these
transfer modes :-)
