Dividing Distribution List

T

Theresa

According to the MS online help all I need to do to divide a distribution
list is to copy it, adjust entries, and repaste it back into Contacts folder.
I followed all the steps but when I tried to copy the new DL I receive the
message 'Clip board can not handle this type of data'. Therefore I can not
copy it back to the contact folder. What has gone wrong? [I can open the file
happily with the normal D/click or open command]. How else can I get the
adjusted DL to appear in the contacts folder?

How are you copying the DL, and where?
You don't copy DL's. You copy the members.
Post the reference you are using.

In the Contacts folder, right-click the DL you wish to copy, drag it a
little way, then release tjhe mouse button. Choose "Copy".

Brian,
I have a related question. I use Outlook 2007 and want to divide one DL into
several smaller DLs. The advice you gave below doesn't seem appropriate for
Outlook 2007. I can't move an existing DL and when I R click, copy is not an
option.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

By the way - where do I go to post my own question? I haven't found that
particular link on the Microsoft Discussion groups website.

There's no built-in mechanismn to copy items from a DL. You'd have to code
that youself, e.g. with VBA.

Hmm. It should be. I'll try it at home where I have my OL 2007 system.

Use a real newsreader, like Outlook Express.

R click and copy works the same in Outlook 2007 as long as it's done within
one of the Contacts Folder views.

Brian, my understanding of the question was how to copy addresses from one
DL to another one. How do you do that?

I interpret the original question as "how do I split a large DL into several
smaller ones".

I tested it and it still works as it always has. You are looking in the
Contacts folder, correct?
