Distribution Chart

Dear all,

I would like to have your help in designing the following chart. Basically,
the chart should display the number of task in each time frame. I would like
to have Y axis showing the time frame. Assuming I have grouped the tasks into
3 categories and the data is as follows :

Start End Revised End # of Task
1 1/1/05 12/31/05 N/A 18
2 3/1/05 12/31/05 N/A 16
3 4/1/05 6/30/05 7/30/05 12

So there will be 3 horizontal bars, Bar 1 is the longest (Jan - Dec) and at
the end of the bars, 18 will be displayed. Bar 2 will start at Mar and end
in Dec with 16 at the end; bar 3 will start at Apr and end at Jun with 12 at
the end.

Basically, the chart is to display how many task in each period. Any
suggestion how I can draw the chart. If you have any better idea to present
the data, please let me know. Thank you.

BL,

I believe Jon Peltier's instructions on creating a gantt chart will help you
build the chart that you need - please see this link:

http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=343

After the chart is built, the next step will be to link the data labels for
each bar to a source outside of the data series. In other words, you will
want to link the data label for the first bar to 18, the data label for the
second bar to 16, and the data label for the third bar to 12. To link the
data labels, you can use one of the tools or methods described here:

http://www.pdbook.com/index.php/excel/adding_independent_data_labels/

Hope this helps.
