distributing entries from worksheet 1 to several other worksheets

Goal: develop a spreadsheet that will keep track of my
(small) business expenses and income. I would like to be
able to make one entry and have the program put the
information in several worksheets.

Problem: since the number of entries on each sheet is
different, I can specify only the worksheet and the
column but not the row.

Scenario:
1. On my summary ledger I enter the purchase of a
pair of scissors. Since it is an expense, I want an
entry on the worksheet of all business expenses. Since
this is small office equipment, I also want an entry on
my worksheet summarizing my cost of running the office.
2. Then I sold some greeting cards to the drug
store. I enter this into the main ledger. I want the
program to place the information on my income work sheet
and on drugstore accounting sheet.
3. Next I have purchased computer printer ink.
Since this is part of making my product (greeting cards,
stationery), I want the computer to record this
information on the general expense sheet and the
materials sheet.
4. I also purchased a new scanner. When I enter the
item into the general ledger, I want the program to place
an entry on the general expense sheet and the capital
expense sheet.

As the year wears on the work sheets will grow, but at
varying rates. Can Excel do this for me? If yes, how do
I write the formula? If the answer is no, can another
Office 2000 program do this task for me?

Hi Alaska
I would do this a little bit differently :)
- use your main ledger as master entry
- use 'Data - Filter' to view only specific parts of yoiur main ledger
- also have a look at pivot tables to create reports out of your main
data. This way you don't have to duplicate record but have one master
record which is just viewed differently
