DISTORTED CD

I can copy from a music CD on to the hard drive and then make a copy of that
to another cd which plays on other equipment. However, when I try to play a
music or audio CD directly from the CD drive the sound is distorted. Has
anyone had a similar problem.

(Assuming that you don't mean distortion due to poor loudspeaker quality or
an impedance mismatch between your audio output and loudspeakers)

Just to let you know: in some circumstances I run into distortion or
stuttering.

I don't know exact causes or solutions, but I am under the impression that
the cause for both our problems may well be with the driver model that
Windows uses to send the signal to the speakers.
Like when I'm using a software synthesizer, using ASIO is the way out of
trouble.

But that doesn't provide you (or me in other circumstances) with a
solution...
