displaying headers by default

Jack Sadie

I have posted this query earlier under a slightly different subject line,
but am extremely disappointed not to get any reply at all - not even an MVP
saying "Forget it, its not worth trying!!".

For some reason which I do not understand, the headers and footers do not
any longer show on screen when I open either a blank document or my
standard letters which have my address in the first page header.
They most certainly used to do that and I like to have the border
always on view in full page and available when I scroll to the top in page
width.

I know that I can invoke them by clicking on View/Headers and Footers, but
I want them showing by default. Can some kind person tell me what I have
done
to lose this (so that I can avoid doing it again) but more importantly what
I
must do to regain it.

I have tried opening Normal.dot, invoking the view header and footer and
saving it in that condition but when I open up it has reverted.

Help please.
TIA.

I suspect that you have hidden your White Space between Pages. From your
Tools menu, select Options, on the View tab, place a checkmark in "White
Space between Pages (Print View Only)"

A quickie way to toggle that on and off is to click between the pages of
your document. Right now with the White space being hidden, there is a dark
line between the pages, if you click on that it with "Show White Space" and
if you click again, it will "Hide White Space".

I hope this is the information you were looking for.

Thank you so much Dawn, and everyone. Problem solved !!
As usual it was a very simple thing if you know where to look and I did not.
I think I must have operated the toggle without realising it
Really pleased.
