Display properties not being saved after reinstallation

Hi,

I have recently had to perform a full reinstall following a hard disk
corruption.

It would appear that my display settings are not being saved as when I
login, my screen size is set to 800x600 (or so) and I need to manually reset
these.

I have updated my display card drivers to the latest version from the
manufracturer.

any ideas?

If you have used the correct and latest video drivers from either the card
mftr. (such as Nvidia or ATI) or the OEM (HP, Dell, etc.) if you have that
sort of machine, then the video card and/or other hardware is failing. I
say that other hardware may be involved since you mentioned "hard disk
corruption" and if your video is on the motherboard, perhaps it is failing
and that is why you're getting hard disk corruption and video problems. Of
course, that's just a surmise since you didn't give any details about your
computer or what "hard disk corruption" means to you.

Thanks for the reply. The video card I use is a nVidia GEforce 7300 LX.

A Registry fix? The machine has had a brand new build only 14 days ago. Do
you think it will need a registry fix? How do I know if the Registry is
corrupted or not, and how do I fix it if it is?

We need clarification.

Did you have a severe malware infestation? Or is the physical hard drive
physically damaged? What *exactly* do you mean by the phrase "hard disk
corruption"?
 
hard disk corruption in this case means that when I tried to reinstall XP due
to a damaged or corrupted Registry, XP over wrote something around the MBR so
that the disk will no longer boot as the primary drive.
