Hello. I hope this forum can help me because I have searched this.forum and
Google and found no answers to my question.

When I go into display properties and try to switch themes, the theme does
not change and display properties crashes. It doesn't matter which theme I
try to change to, I am stuck on this theme I am on.

The crash error is: "Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs
to close." Appname: rundll32.exe Appver: 5.1.2600.2180 Mod: Unknown

I have scaned with Lavasoft Ad-Aware, AVG Free Edition, Trend Micro
Housecall, and RAV Online Scanner. I do not have any infected files. I
tried doing a repair from the Windows CD, but the CD gave me a messages
saying the copy of Windows on the CD is older than the copy of Windows
currently installed on my computer. I assume that is because of SP2. So, I
went to "ad/remove programs" in the Control Panel and looked if there was an
option to repair SP2; there was only an option to remove it completely.

I am out of ideas, can someone please help me. Thank you.

1) Many devices require a newer driver after installing
SP2. Do NOT use the Windows Update feature to do this, go
directly to the manufacturer's web site for device drivers.
Be sure you know exactly which video card, model, etc. you
have before going to the web site, even if it means
opening the case to verify. Usually this information is
available from the literature that accompanied the
computer, it can also be looked up in Device Manager and
with other Windows tools.

2) What, if anything, changed on your system prior to the
start of this problem ? Programs ? Hardware ? Drivers ?
Games ?

3) Have you run the system file checker, SFC ? Go to the
command prompt, type SFC /? and look at the options.
Have your Windows installation disc nearby as you will
probably be asked for it. You'll probably want to run
SFC /scannow.

This kind of problem is the best reason for having a spare
hard drive and making an image backup twice per month. You
can recover in less than an hour.

Good Luck !
