Display Properties: Appearance

My Windows XP allows me to choose between Windows Classic Style and Windows
XP Style for the appearance of my screen. I happen to prefer the classic
style. Currently, my computer boots up (usually, but not always) using the
XP style, so that I have to go through the hassle of changing it to the
classic style.

Is there a way to make it so I can always boot up using the classic style?

Thanks,
Roy

Almost any theme other than Windows Classic needs the Theme service running.
Windows Classic theme does not need the Theme service running. Disable the
Themes service.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Themes | Click the V next to Startup type |
Select Disabled | Click the Apply button | Click the Stop button |
When the Themes service has stopped, click OK | Close Services

If you mean Windows and buttons on Display Properties | Appearance tab...

Visual styles are implemented by the Themes service. If the service isn't
running, Windows reverts to the classic Windows styles, which doesn't rely
on the Themes service. The Windows XP Style choice won't be available.

If you select a visual style other than Windows Classic, that style
determines the appearance of your menus, fonts, icons, and other Window
elements. Including Windows and buttons.

Windows and buttons
[[Lists the visual styles that are available for the theme that is currently
selected on the Themes tab. ]]

[[NOTE: You can change the look of individual items if you select Windows
Classic style in the Windows and buttons list on the Appearance tab of
Display Properties. (Right-click an empty area of your desktop, then click
Properties, and then click the Appearance tab). If you select a visual style
other than Windows Classic, that style determines the appearance of your
menus, fonts, icons, and other Window elements. ]]

Wesley,

Yes, that's what I meant. I followed your instructions and I'm sure it will
work because the Windows XP option no longer appears at Display Properties |
Appearance tab | Windows and Buttons...

Thanks very much,

Roy
