Running XP Pro SP2, all updates installed. When I open display properties,
after about 3-4 seconds, the properties box closes. Same thing happens with
Add/Remove programs. Adaware and Spybot fail to find anything, and no
viruses. This is not user specific, any user that logs on to this machine
experiences the same thing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Has the problem just started without any correlation to any
changes/installations/uninstalls/updates/upgrades etc etc???
Do you receive any error messages?
You indicate other users and so user profiles?
If this prob has just manifested after previously functioning OK,
I would check with other users if they have been fiddling?.

THe user had been out for a week, and when she returned, the problem was
there. She stated she had no problems prior to being gone, and her station
was not in use while she was gone. No errors that I can see, nor any errors
in the logs. Very strange problem.

Hi,

Suggestions:

If she is using third party: Switch back to a Microsoft Theme or go to
/WINDOWS/Resources/Themes/<Name of theme in use> and rename
the shell folder to the name of the visual style shown in the appearance
tab.

Add or Remove Edits: Lines 188, 193, 226, 146, 208 and 336 (right hand
side) and 323:

If you are using any HTA blockers, it will cause this behavior. If per
chance this is the
case and you are using HTAStop (as an example) enable HTA applications.

Either way: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i mshtml
