display problems

Today I tried to watch a DVD and there are a series of thick vertical lines
across the movie. These weren't there yesterday. The only thing I did this
AM was to download a recomended windows update. I tried to restore to
yesterday's setpoint but system restore said no changes were made. Is there
a way to undo or go backward from a microsoft update, or is there some other
place to look first?
BTW I tried two different DVD drives, and two different DVD playing software
programs, both with the same result.

The first step I would take is to go to the video card
manufacture's webpage and download the latest video
driver for your video card.
