Display problems

Hello,

I just bought a new laptop with Windows XP Family Edition and I installed
Office XP Professional Edition. Everything was ok, but since yesterday I have
a display problem, and I have no clue what is the reason and how to solve it.
Text and icons are sometimes blurred (as if there was a "gray duplicate"
underneath), e.g. desktop icons, "start" name at the bottom left, window
titles, etc. This also happens for text in documents (as in Word), but not
always (it comes and it goes).

Can anyone help me please ? I doubt this is hardware problem, it looks more
like a problem coming from Windows. If anyone is willing to help, I can send
screenshots showing the problem.

By advance, thank you !

Best regards from Belgium,

Jea-Marc

Check if font smoothing is enabled: right click on the desktop, click
Properties, go to Appearance tab, click on Effects... button, then check the
box

Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:
Standard

Hello,

Thank you both for your suggestion to check font edges. I did and it did not
solve the problem, yet. Sorry.

Actually, this is not just for characters ; icons on the desktop are also
"blurred". I put 2 screenshots online : www.decizium.com/screen1.jpg
(desktop, look at the "Start"/"Démarrer" menu) and
www.decizium.com/screen2.jpg (Word document). The problem in Word documents
comes and goes on its own.

Any other suggestion ?

Regards,

Jean-Marc

Which graphic driver do you have?Update the driver from the
manufacturer's website.

In the mean time you may do the followings:-

Start>Run>Regedit>Ok

Now navigate to:-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

Look in the right pane for Shell Icon BPP - it should be set to 16
If not, double click on it and enter the value as 16.

Otherwise,you may try:-

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

left item #4. [Repairs the Icon View]

Regarding WORD doc. problem you may try Detect and Repair under Help menu.

After looking at the screenshots, i think it's your hardware's problem.
Better send your monitor to be checked. Hope I'm right...

Go to the laptop manufacturer website, download and install the correct
video driver for your machine type/model..
