Am looking for an application that will display the formatting code in
a MS Word document. I want to use this as an example of how
proprietary applications add format to their finished product in an
xml class.

Any help would be appreciated.

I use a DOS freeware program named "PFM" to examine the innards of
files. I've been using it since 1984; it's been especially helpful when
doing detective work in order to convert files from obscure formats.
Also, to figure out before/after of how an unknown program has handled
things like word wrapping.

I suspect, though, that with the newer Windowses, PFM won't be usable
past W9x. There are other viewers, of course, but they won't handle with
the slickness of PFM (which probably stands for Paul's File Manager).
File Snoop is good.

The amount of bloat in MS Word files defies the imagination. I've
routinely zipped MS Word files by 98 percent!

I'd like to know what you find out!
