display name vs. email address

I just update my Office Pro 2000 to Office Pro 2003 and use Outlook 2003
connected to Exchange Server 2003. Our company contact database is in a
public folder, which is setup to be an Outlook Address Book. When sending an
email in OL2000, I would type in the person's actual name, like Joe Blough,
and the To: field would populate with Joe Blough (the display name). Since
the update to OL2003, I've got two probably related problems.

1. When entering the display name for the contact, the To: field populates
with the email address, not the display name.

2. When I start typing in the To: field, the auto-fill list shows only the
names in my personal contacts folder, not the company public contact folder
addresses.

When opening a contact, I find that the email address and display name are
both populated with the email address. Any ideas?

At what point does it populate?

The autocompletion feature references neither the Global Address List nor
your personal contacts. It remembers the addresses to which you've already
sent messages and shows them to you again when you begin typing.

If the contact in the Global Address List or in a Contacts folder? If the
latter, is it a contact folder in your mailbox or in a public folder?

I get what is happening now, but here are my answers to your questions:
At what point does it populate?

Immediately as I begin to type.

Yeah, I see that now. All the names are there, but only recently used ones
pop up in the auto complete list.

latter, is it a contact folder in your mailbox or in a public folder?

Our contacts are in a public Contacts folder.

The only thing that's still happening that I don't understand is why the
email addresses are populating the To: field instead of the contact names.
Thanks.

I'm not sure, either, and I think I'd need to see it to speculate.

I've played with some more. I find that if I open the contact form, delete
the email address, the retype the email address, the display name populates
with First Last ([email protected]), which is what I get on my non-Exchange
based OL2003 installation. But for some odd reason, the display names all
populated with just the email addresses in our public contacts folder. Any
easy way to fix this?
