Hi,
I've posed this problem on the XP "basics" NG. Thought it might be more
appropriate here. About a week ago I began using a new 17" LCD monitor and
the picture was great right out of the box. I just hooked it up and all was
fine. This morning I bootup and everything changed. It was as though I was
using my old 15"CRT. As far as I know, I did nothing new to my machine. I
went into Control Panel, "Display" and tried some things that made some
improvement, but it's not the same. My lettering is grainier and some web
sites appear cramped and don't fill the entire screen. What happened? Is
there something else I could try to get my original look back? BTW, I got no
software with my new monitor.
Thanks,
jll

Did you play any games or visit a website that might have
reset your video?

Check the specs on your 17 inch LCD and set the graphics
card to match the resolution and set the refresh rate to 60
to 85, what ever is recommended.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. For some reason, XP must have
changed the resoluton to the max 1280x1024 and I don't like the effect. I
cranked it back some to where it suits me.
Thanks again,

Did you perhaps install a Dell Graphics update from Windows
Update?

I didn't intentionally but I do have a Dell with that "Upgrade popup" and it
may have done so without my OK. Anyway, the changes I've made suit me and
all is well. Thanks again,
