Display adapter no longer recognized

Porting a (working) configuration to a new mainboard, I ran TA (not
TAP) on the new board, and imported the result into a copy of the
existing configuration of the old mainboard.

The original config _was_ pre-SP1, so a number of components were
updated in the process.

This appeared to work fine, no errors, dependency check OK.

The same display adapter is used on the new board as on the old: an
NVidia GeForce4 MX 440.

FBA completes successfully, all drivers installed and running except
for the display adapter: it's using the standard VGA driver.

I tried to install the driver manually through display control panel /
advanced / adapter / driver / browse to the INF file: it said the file
(NV4_disp.inf) doesn't contain a driver for this hardware.

Then I did the same through device manager, and now suddenly it
worked. The target is 100% working now.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

I've got to get the display adapter detected in FBA like it was in the
original version, because a keyboard / mouse are only available in my
test setup.

Found it: Murphy decided that when I'm moving to a new mainboard would
be the perfect time for our supplier to start shipping MX 440 adapters
that look identical to the older ones (down to the model number), but
have a different PNP ID.

Added the new ID to the nv4_disp.inf file, and it works - even without
updating the other driver files to newer versions.
