Disk utilities

Anyone ever heard or know of a free Norton Utilities clone of any kind?
In particular, I'm looking for something like Norton Disk Doctor that
can check a Win2k NTFS file system for errors and fix, etc. Anything
like this at all? Any good sources for disk utils?

Also these .

HDD Health
http://www.panterasoft.com/
HDD Health is a full-featured failure-prediction agent for machines
using Windows 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000 and XP. Sitting in the system
tray, it monitors hard disks and alerts you to impending failure.
The program uses Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology
(S.M.A.R.T.) built into all new hard disks, and can predict failures
on your hard drives. A host of alerting features include email, local
pop-up messages, net messages, and event logging, while using no
system resources.

Disk Tester
http://www.cix.co.uk/~net-services/disktest/
Disk Tester tests CDs, floppies and hard disks.
Check CDs and floppies before shipment
Quick test of Backup and Archive media
Can be faster than ScanDisk or other tools
Simple to use
Freeware
Requires Windows 95/8/NT.
Disk Tester reads in all the files on the selected disk. If it has a
problem reading a file, it reports it.

Would you recommend installing one of these programs? Could installing one
of these programs cause any problems, slow down the computer or mess up the
drive etc? Has anyone had a problem uninstalling one of these programs?
This is a new area to me and I wonder whether it is worth it to get one of
these programs or not. My computer is less than a year old, but I do use it
for my business and it is imperative that I make sure that my information is
secure from a crash. Even though I back up regularly, would this give me a
little extra insurance against potential problems?
Thanks in advance,
Carolyn

I would just do (Windows built in command)
CHKDSK D: /F

(Where /F will fix errors, might require reboot)
