Anyone know of a third party program that will make a real-time disk mirror
for Win2k Pro. This will be used on laptops, being able to boot the laptop
off the mirror is not of a great concern just having a real-time backup that
can restore OS, Applications, and Data for the computer illiterate.

Symantec Ghost 2003.

Define "real time: - many define this many ways !

Ghost will image the hard disk and make a complete restore possible.

You did state booting from the backup is not needed and being able to use RAID 0/1 is not
really an option for notebooks.

Real Time you make a change on one drive and the change is made on the
second as in a Mirrored drive

That's not possible on notebooks.

You are talking RAID 0/1. For that to happen the notebook has to be able to have 2 x 2.5"
IDE hard disks AND the controller must support RAID 0/1. This is quite possible in a
desktop via a PCI IDE RAID 0/1 card but not in a notebook.

Sorry....

The Notebook has 2 seperate drives looking for a thrid party program to make
a mirrored set. As you would mirror a server drive. Raid 0/1 is not required

That's what RAID is all about !

Either it is handled by the controller or it is handled by the OS. In Win2K and WinXP this
is ONLY available on Server versions of the OS. There are no add-in programs to mirror
data.
