Disk Management Unallocated disk space

Hi. My internal hard drive is partitioned into two: C and D. I wanted to
free up more space in C, where the system sits, so i (i know--foolishly)
deleted the D partition. Didn't work. Cs still the same size and D shows up
"unallocated" in the Disk Management box and does not appear at all on "my
computer"/msexplorer.

Is there anything i can do short of reinstalling xp again?

XP's DiskPart utility is capable of only partitioning a hard drive that is empty
or has "unallocated" free space.
For example, if you were to install a new second drive, DiskPart can be
used to partition and format it. DiskPart cannot segregate current files from
free space, therefore, only a sophisticated third-party partitioning program,
such as Partition Magic 8 , can be used with a drive that already has Windows XP
installed.

The only way you can create, delete, resize or merge existing partitions,
and not harm your existing Windows installation, is to purchase and use
a third-party partitioning program such as Partition Magic 8.

The alternative is to perform a "clean install" of Windows XP:

Hi Falmengista,

The former D partition does not show up in My Computer/Windows Explorer and
shows up as unallocated in Disk Management because you have deleted the
partition......this is normal. If you want to allocate more space to drive
C, you would have to either:

a) delete the C partition (losing all data, including operating system) on
that partition, then repartition, allocating more space to drive C, then
format and reinstall the operating system, etc.

b) use a third-party partioning utility to resize drive C by incorporating a
portion (or all) of the unallocated space to that partition.

Ranish is free. There are also trial periods on commercial programs.
