Disk Integrity Check Blew Data Away!

Moved a 250GB hard drive to a Win2K Pro Desktop. This
drive has lots of Windows 2000 NTFS data on it. When it
was mounted, the integrity checker found a many errors an
proceeded to delete a zillion orphan file record
segments. What have I done? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Does that desktop machine have the ability to support "big drives", those
over 137 GB that must use 48-bit addressing?
