Disk error during setup

Charles Cohn

When I try to setup Win2000, I get a message that
says "Disk I/O error: status 00008000." What does that
mean? Where can I find info on the meanings of these
messages?

If I let the setup proceed, then when I get to the middle
of the process where it finds and sets up hardware
devices, it stops with a blue screen of death that
says "Hardware error, contact your vendor." What causes
that?

What I was really looking for is somebody who could tell
me the exact meanings of these specific error messages, or
at least where to look them up.

How far into setup are you getting? The disk error
message shows when the computer asks me to press Enter to
set up win2000.

Are you upgrading or installing clean? Installing clean.

Has this computer worked with a different operating
system? Yes, I have used it with Win 98SE, but it was
very crashy.

Are there strange clicking noises occurring? No.

Is there a floppy in your A: drive? No, the error message
comes after the point where I am told to remove the floppy.

Are there beeps coming from the computer before setup
begins? No.

Disk I/O error means the computer is unable to read or
write to the boot
disk. Is there a floppy in your A: drive? Are there
beeps coming from the computer before setup begins?
