disk defrag schedule

Every time I try to schedule or try to run defrag, I get a warning
that..."Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on
Volumn: (C). Please run Chkdsk/ f.

I don't know how to correct this so my sacn disk can run automatically. I
can send a screenshot of the warning if this would help.

Please help. Thank you.

Did you get an answer? I have the same problem.

I don't understand Killsake's earlier unhelpful insult to MAP for the
suggestion to just let the check run. If a chkdsk *has* been scheduled, have
you tried rebooting and seeing if one is run? If not, tell Windows to run
one:

Start > Run > cmd [press Enter]

In the black command window that pops up, type
chkdsk /f
and press Enter. [NB it's space-forward slash-f, not as "type" gave it.
Perhaps a type-o, haha]

In all likelihood you'll get a message about the volume being "in use by
another process" and chkdsk cannot run. Reply "Y" to the question about
scheduling a check on next restart, save your work, close all windows and
reboot your machine. The check should start automatically as it comes back
up (unless you then instruct it not to at the prompt).

If you have several drives, you can specify which by using their letter, eg
chkdsk d: /f

What happens when you try this?

If the chkdsk runs through to completion, give a defrag another whirl.

Thank you, Olorin!! I've been getting this error for about 3 weeks myself
and couldn't figure out what I'd done to get this msg every time I tried to
defrag. I've been searching all sorts of "help" websites and stumbled across
this one. I did what you said and it worked! I was able to defrag. Your
help is much appreciated. Thanks to "type" for asking the question, which
let me bypass the wait time waiting for an answer. I was able to get right
to the solution : }

I, too, am baffled by Killsake's unhelpful and demeaning input. This is,
after all, a newsgroup for new XP users. Maybe we'll all be as smart as
Killsake one day and not have to ask such questions. Sorry if that sounds
demeaning. It's not meant to be; it's just meant to remind people that we
all started at zero. I'm very appreciative of those who willingly and
clearly share their knowledge.
