Disk cleanup

I have windows xp home edition, when I try to use the
disk cleanup feature it opens and doesn't show any
activity for more than an hour.
I have tried to use the program thru Run>cleanmgr
too..but it doesn't work.
I have restarted the computer and tried to run the pogram
but that too didn't work.

Line 48, Right column "Disk Cleanup - Compress..."
Save on Desktop.
Double click the icon once downloaded.
The icon can then be discarded.
