When I try to run disk cleanup, nothing happens. no freeze, no hang, no initialization, no errors, nothing
Just for giggles, I have done the compress files fix on kellys korners. I have also downloaded the cleanmgr file from there also. I have run "sfc /scannow" from the command line and found no problems. I am going nuts here, please help.

Thank you for your prompt reply!

I followed the suggestions, doing everything twice, and restarting in
between, but so far, Disk Cleanup still hangs and will not run.

Do you have any further suggestions?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Ken,

It seems that the Disk Cleanup hangs even after following the steps given
in the earlier mails. To resolve the issue further try reinstalling the
Disk Cleanup component . But before try clearing once again the "compressed
old files" from the registry by following the steps given below:

Clearing the Compressed Old files from the Registry:

1. Click "Start", click "Run", type "regedit" (without the quotation
marks), and then click "OK".

2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Volume
Caches\Compress Old Files

3. On the "Edit" menu, click "Delete".

4. When prompted to "Confirm Key Delete," click "Yes".

5. Quit Registry Editor.

If the Disk Cleanup problem still persists, then uninstall and reinstall
the Disk Cleanup component by following the steps given below:

Note: You may require a Windows XP CD.

1.Open control panel and double click "Add/Remove Program" icon.

2.Click the "Add/Remove Windows Components".

3.Search for "Sytem Tools" section and then click the "Details" button.

4.Uncheck the option "Disk cleanup" and then follow the onscreen
instructions.

Repeat the above process, but this time check the "Disk cleanup" option in
System Tools section and follow the onscreen instructions.

Restart the system.

Now check whether you are able to run Disk Cleanup now.

I hope the above steps helps you resolve the issue.
