disk clean up

I went into disc cleanup and cleaned all the files etc,then i noticed one
that i had not put a tick against,it is called 'Catolog files for the Content
Indexer'.
,This had a very high cache,clicked on it and it said it was safe to
'delete',,,so i did,,,,not long after that every icon on my desk top started
to disappear,,,i was unable to boot my pc up even in 'safe mode',,i had to
restore my pc to the factory settings using the restore disk that came with
my pc,,,i lost a lot of info on my pc due to this happening,,,,can anyone
explain why this happened,,,your help on this matter will be most appreciated.

hi again,,,i did what Wesley said to do,which was to disable the said
function,this problem will not happen again,because i have the knowledge now
not to delete these files,,i still do not know why it wiped all my files
including c://WINDOWS I386 (i think this is what came up).
my pc would not boot up so i had no choice but to reload my restore disc,i
also learned another valuable lesson,,IN THE FUTURE I WILL BE BACKING UP ALL
MY FILES IN CASE THIS HAPPENS AGAIN LOL,,,,,Thanking you for your help again.
P.S. In disk clean up, the line 'Catolog files for the Content indexer 'is
still there but there is 0kb,so hopefully i have solved the prob,with you
help of course

I have run into the same problems. Selected to delete catalog files for the
COntent Indexer believing that it simply delete the index. However, I have
found that it has deleted just about all of my files and programs, or at
least the indexes to them. I am not even able to use a previous restore
point as these have been deleted. Is there anyway of recovering my systems
and files?

The Indexing Service wull rebuild the Index over the next few days
unless you have turned the Service. Check by selecting Start, Control
Panel, Administrative Tolls, Services, Indexing Service and see if it
has started.
