DIsk Clean-Up Won't Run

For reasons unknown to me Disk Clean-Up has ceased to
function on my new Dell. I'm running XP professional and
have lots of system resources. When I go to run Disk
Clean-Up the system freezes on me.
Any ideas?

Is it really a freeze? Often times the disk cleanup utility needs massive
amounts of time to compress folders, ect. Have you given it a half hour or
so to do it's thing?

People have given it days. I think one guy gave it a week. It doesn't help or maybe it requires months.
