Disk Check

When starting my computer, I keep getting a messge that
reads: "one of the disks needs to be checked for
consistency - type of file system is FAT 32." I let the
system do this consistency check, but I am still getting
the message. Does anyone know how to keep this message
from returning every time I start my computer?

Do you have any removable drives attached like USB Flash
disks or zip drives? You could try removing these before
you shutdown/switch on and see if that helps. If not,
check that your system is shutting down properly.

I'm not sure, but there are two possibilities that spring
to mind.

1. You "shut down" your computer by unplugging it. I doubt
this, and anyway, in this case Scandisk would tell
you "*Because Windows was not properly shut down,* one of
the disks..."

2. Someone may have scheduled Scandisk to run every time
your computer boots. Check Scheduled Tasks: Start >
Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks. I
haven't worked with this for a while, but if Scandisk is
listed there, it should be easy to remove the task.

Click Start, Run and enter CMD.EXE In the Command Prompt window that
opens, enter

CHKDSK X: /F

Where X is the actual drive letter that XP tells you needs to be checked.
If you receive a prompt about "unmounting the drive", tell it no. You'll be
asked if you want to schedule the check at the next reboot, tell it yes. It
should check this drive once more when you restart, and be fine after that.

If this doesn't work, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

Look in the right pane for a value called BootExecute. This value should
read: autocheck autochk * If not, double click BootExecute and change
it so that it matches this example.

Thank you for the suggestions
