on two laptops, a dell and a toshiba, both running xp pro
sp1, i have different numbers showing for the amount of
physical ram. on both msinfo32 shows the amount that i
know is installed there which is also the amount that
bios sees, but "my computer"--> "system properties" shows
a smaller number. on the dell its 192MB and 128MB
respectively, and on the toshiba its 512MB and 496MB
respectively.

an explanation and course of action will be greatly
appreciated

Both computers probably have onboard video, rather than separate
video cards, and use some of main RAM to support that
function--16MB on the Toshiba, and 64MB on the Dell.

Thanks for the quick reply.
how would i be able to verify that you're correct?

i believe you're mistaken because on the dell, if i take
the 64MB mem stick out and leave the 128MB stick only,
all the numbers align. it's all 128MB as it should be.
now i didn't play much with the toshiba, but i remember
that the number it used to show until recently on "my
computer" was the correct 512MB, and now it seems as if i
lost 16MB.

thanks again though
