RAM upgrade not showing OK in System applet in Control Panel

PC is IBM/Lenovo ThinkCentre model 9211KGD (P4HT)
I upgraded RAM from 1GB to 4GB
Lenovo System Toolbox and msinfo32.exe report 4GB
System applet in Control Panel reports 2.98GB
Task manager reports physical memory approx 3.14GB

Can someone hint me on where to read about these different numbers?

First thing you MUST know that Windows XP Pro 32Bit will not use the
4GB RAMs. Due the the design of the 32bit version, XP Pro 32bit will
only give you about 3.24GB of RAM. Then, if you are using a video
card that is built into (aka part of) the motherboard, most of these
will "share" some of the total RAM for the video card's memory.
