I have a USB drive connected to my pc. Windows finds it and installs it as a
disc drive, it is present in device manager, but is missing from My Computer.
Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Graham

Has the USB drive been formatted? Does the drive appear under "Disk
Management"?

Hi dd, The drive belongs to a friend, I'm not sure if it is formatted, where
would I find "Disk Management?". Graham

Go to start | help. Type disk management in the search box. There is a great
amount of information available there that will explain how to properly
prepare a disk for use (create partition and format). Until it is setup
properly, a disk will not show up in My Computer.

Many thanks Richard, I have found Disk Management, it reports the disk as
"not allocated" The new partion option is greyed out, I do not know what not
allocated means in this context. I would assume the disk needs formatting,
but I am unable to find this option. Do I need to perform some other action
first? If so, please could you tell me what. As you can tell, I am a beginer
at this, so all help is much appreciated! GrAham

Well, you should contact your friend prior to formatting the drive.
where would I find "Disk Management?".

Already done, according to another post.

Hi dd, I had my friends permission to do whatever was required. Valid point
though.
Thanks to all who contributed in my hour of need, thanks to you I have
managed to cure the problem. The drive now appears in My Computer!! What a
wonderful resource.
