disc defragmenter won't run

when i try to run my disc defragmenter i receive this
error message:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DEFRAG.MSC

Only part of a Read Process Memory or Write Process
Memory request was completed


help, anyone?

First run disk cleanup before defrag.Try going to run after,type:cmd
In cmd typeefrag C:

thanks, i tried your suggestion and all that happened was
that it gave an analysis report. after that nothing.
could the defragmenter have been uninstalled and missing.
6 days and still lost, and a lot of programs not working
or not loading.
